"Information Technology-Assisted Learning of Chinese as a Second Language" Project
Using our team's independently developed "mLang" information technology-assisted learning software and teaching methods, we help students from ethnic minorities and low-income families in Kwai Tsing and Yuen Long districts learn Chinese.
background
Over the past two years, due to the impact of the pandemic, schools in Hong Kong have been forced to alternate between online and face-to-face classes.
- The teaching schedule was severely delayed, forcing teachers to "catch up" on lessons, which affected the quality of teaching.
Online classes delayed the collection and distribution of homework, preventing teachers from grading assignments on time and hindering students from consolidating their learning.
This "new normal" is particularly disadvantageous to minorities and low-income families.
- Difficulties in social adaptation and language barriers faced by non-Chinese speaking students
Parents lack knowledge of Chinese language and technology, making it difficult for them to support their children's online learning at home and complete school-assigned homework.
- Parents from low-income families are unable to stay home with their children for online learning and homework due to work commitments.
