Purpose: This competition aims to enhance the interest of non-Chinese speaking students in learning Mandarin, cultivate their love for Mandarin performing arts, and provide a platform for exchange between non-Chinese speaking students and schools.
Eligibility: All non-Chinese speaking students enrolled in full-time secondary schools in Hong Kong are eligible to participate.
(According to the Education Bureau guidelines, "non-Chinese speaking students" refers to students who have studied Chinese courses in Hong Kong for less than six years, or who have adapted to Chinese courses for more than six years.)
Group:
1. Junior Secondary School Reading (Individual): Form 1 to Form 3
2. High school reading aloud (individual): Form 4 to Form 5
3. Team reading: Regardless of grade level, in pairs.
Competition Rules: 1. Junior high school group: individual reading. Each school may send a maximum of six students to participate.
2. High school group individual recitation: each school may send a maximum of six participants.
3. Team reading competition: Each school may send a maximum of three teams to participate.
4. Students participating in individual readings can also participate in group recitations.
Registration method: Schools can register online at: https://forms.gle/pLZD3Nyna9ZrB1hu7 or scan the following QR code.
Registration deadline: March 5, 2021 (Friday)
Deadline for submitting competition videos: March 31, 2021 (Wednesday)
Submission method: Upload the entries of each school to the designated cloud drive on or before the deadline. The cloud drive URL of each school will be attached with the confirmation email. For video specifications and submission details, please refer to the attached "Instructions for Shooting and Submitting Videos".
Confirmation Email: Participating schools will receive a "confirmation email" by March 12 (Friday). Teachers are requested to review and confirm the participation information in the email.
Changes to data: If you wish to change the data you have submitted, please submit your request in writing or by email before March 19th. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Cost: Free
Awards:
1. Each participant who achieves a specified score will be awarded a gold, silver, or bronze trophy.
2. Each group will also have an "Best Stage Presence Award" and a "Creative Performance Award".
3. The remaining participants will receive a certificate of commendation as encouragement.
Judging panel: comprised of professors from the Centre for Chinese Language Education Research, Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong, and industry experts.
This competition will consist of preliminary and final rounds. Each school only needs to submit one entry video, and the judges will conduct a selection process.
Scoring Criteria:
1. Pronunciation: 40%
2. Expression skills: 40%
3. Typhoon: 20%
Results announced:
The results will be announced on May 28, 2021, on the school website www.yhkcc.edu.hk and the mLang website www.mlang.com.hk. All qualified participants will receive comments. The trophy and certificate can be obtained by "collection at the school" or "delivery with cash on delivery". The school will contact the participating schools at that time.
Other details:
1. To enhance the competition's appeal, participants may use props as appropriate, but props must not contain any text or symbols. The use of props is not included in the scoring criteria.
2. The competition results shall be final as determined by the committee's judgment, and there is no appeal mechanism.
3. By submitting online registration, participants agree to and agree to abide by the competition's regulations, content, rules, and arrangements. 4. The organizer reserves the right to amend the competition regulations, rules, and related arrangements, and participants may not object. For the latest competition arrangements, please visit the school's website: www.yhkcc.edu.hk or www.mlang.com.hk.
5. The organizer reserves the right to use the submitted videos to produce any form of media for publicity, promotion, and to encourage non-Chinese speaking students to recite in Chinese. The organizer will consider any use of the submitted work for the aforementioned purposes without the prior consent of the participant as a reasonable arrangement.
6. The organizer has the final decision-making and interpretation rights.
7. Except for the entry video, all entry forms and related information will be destroyed within 30 days after the competition.
